All good things must come to an end, folks. The 2012 Summer Reading Fest is officially a wrap. (You can read it all about it’s humble beginnings here, here and here.) So let’s get down to the reading list and how you can get in on some prizes.
I hope y’all were able to dig into some really good books. I sure did! Even though I didn’t get through my entire reading list, I made a pretty good dent on it as you can see below:
The Interruption of Everything, Terry McMillanLone Survivor, Marcus Luttrell- Bringing Up Boys, James Dobson
- The Known World, Edward P. Jones
Frumps to Pumps, Sarah MaeAlways Know What to Say: Easy Ways to Approach and Talk to Anyone, Peter MurphyElizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch, Sally Bedell Smith- No Higher Honor: A Memoir of My Years in Washington, Condoleeza Rice (I’m currently reading this one now. According to the Kindle app, I’ve only read 9% of it during the past week. At 700+ pages, this could take awhile.)
The Fitting Room: Putting on the Character of Christ, Kelly Minter- The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren
Through My Eyes: Tim Tebow(This book wasn’t on my original list but when I saw it at the library, I couldn’t pass it up.)Secret project book(more to come on this later)
This brings me to a total of 25 books read so far this year. Not bad considering that it’s more than I read for all of last year. Say what?! It just goes to show that when you’re intentional about doing something (like reading more, in my case), you’ll find a way to make things happen.
If I had to pick a favorite among the books I read, I’d have to go with Lone Survivor. Man, this book really makes you appreciate the fact that there are brave and courageous men and women out there who are willing to fight on behalf of our country. I was completely flabbergasted by the rigorous training exercises and dangerous missions Marcus Luttrell describes in this book. I think every civilian should read at least one book like this in their lifetime because it gives you a higher level of appreciation for our military personnel.
Now, moving on…
If you recall, I said there’d be prizes at the end of the summer reading fest so here’s what’s up for grabs and how you can get in on the good stuff:

Summer Reading Fest may be over but keep on reading peeps!

Make sure to roll over into Fall reading the book “bringing up BOYS” by Dr. James Dobson!! Amazing book on raising up boys in this world! So good I bought his “bringing up GIRLS” book! Got to get started on that one :) Have the book, “The Purpose Driven Life” but haven’t cracked that one open yet! Sooo many books on my shelf that haven’t been cracked open :-/
I didnt know there was a Bringing up Girls version. I’ll have to pick it up as I really liked the boys book.
This was definitely a refreshing challenge! Thanks!!
Ok so this was a bit rough for me but I finally finished a book!! I started “4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss but haven’t gotten past Ch 4. I finished “One Day It’ll All Make Sense by Common & Adam Bradley” and I must say I want to read it again!!
I read books 4 and 5 of the Percy Jackson series…The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian. They were nice easy reads and fun to talk about with my nine year old nephew. It was so nice to meet you at the birthday party a few weeks ago.
I am a big reader and read a lot of Harlequin presents, silhouette desires which will make my number higher than others and these types of books I usually read about 2-3 a week. So I would average so far this summer I would say I have read at least around 30 books (I check out books from the library, buy books from the used book store (cheap ones) and trade with my mother who is a big reader.
This is my “shout out” comment for the itunes gc. thanks for this random question/entry

What if I can’t remember what I read? Let me try to count… “The Hunger Games”, “Cherished (?)”, “About Last Night”, “Just the Way You Are”, “Fifty Shades of Grey”, “Fifty Shades Freed”, “Fifty Shades Darker”. I can’t remember what I read on the plan back from Africa. So I know 7 for sure. As for length, I read most of them on my iPhone, so I don’t know the real page count. But the “Fifty Shades Freed has 578 pages according to B&N! 8)
I would’ve loved to read a lot this summer but with a toddler and a full time job there just isn’t time like there used to be. The only book I read recently is Can you keep a secret by sophia kinsella. Very hilarious
Sorry, I did not get on board with the reading. Like I said, I enjoy reading about people’s lives. The only book I read – Kris Jenner…..and All Things Kardashians.
