Five Minute Friday: This is New for Me

I told y’all that even though I was getting more organized with my writing that I was still going to keep it random, too. Well, today, I’m here to deliver on that promise because I’ve finally decided to participate in Five Minute Friday.

Five minute, huh? Whatchutalkingbout Kacey? (Said in my Gary Coleman voice.)

Here’s the deal, there’s this blogger, Lisa-Jo Baker, that posts a one-word prompt every Friday. Then, tons of other bloggers take just 5 minutes to write a post about that topic and publish it for the world to see without any editing.

What’s the point, you ask? It’s so we writers/bloggers can break away from always feeling like we have to publish the “perfect” post or over-analyzing what people will think about our posts. In addition, a little unscripted writing is good for tapping into our creative brain and writer’s instinct.

I’ve been reading other people’s 5 Minute Friday posts for awhile. Now, I’m going to give it a go myself the first Friday of every month. Once I see Lisa-Jo’s prompt, I’ll write for 5 minutes straight and not look at it until I get the Well-Rounded Home email like the rest of y’all. I’m kind of nervous, y’all because I have no clue what’s going to pop out of my head. And the no editing thing really has me concerned. (Although, these will be the quickest posts I’ve ever written.)

Y’all know I’m always up for a challenge, so here goes…

Graceful

Graceful…this topic makes me laugh.  I’m anything but graceful.

When I think of graceful, I think of lean ballerinas dancing in Swan Lake.

I think of elegant older women who still wear pearls during the week.

Nope, I’m not graceful. But I’m me.

In my 30′s, I’m learning to be ok with that.

God made me who I am and what I am for a reason.

I may feel awkward or be self-conscious.

But He can use even me.

And the best part is that when he looks at me–He sees graceful.

It was going so good, but now I’ve just looked at my watch and thought, is the timer working?

That’s the longest five minutes ever. Two and a half minutes to go? Wow.

I’m new at this Five Minute Friday thing, what can I say.

I started off well, don’t you think?

Time’s up.

Five Minute Friday

p.s. I cheated and went back and read what I wrote, but I didn’t edit it…though I really, really wanted to bad. I’m cringing now at the thought of other people reading this. Good Friday laughs.

(I pictured the Arnold look to the “whatchutalkin’bout, Kacey” line–ha ha!)

Welcome to the five minute friday fun! Great way to inaugurate your experience. Loved your line about God making you who & what you are for a reason. It’s so true.

Hope to see you again soon :)

I once was astonished at how much I was pumping out for a Five Minute Friday….and then I looked at the timer. Somehow I had set it for five HOURS!! I’m not sure how badly I “cheated” that week. :)
    Welcome to FMF. Fabulous job!

You are my Blogger Shero! Love it. One day, my friend, I will be as brave as you are…one day.

Perhaps to be truly graceful you have to be willing to let it all hang out.
    And you’ve done that.
And you are full of grace.
    Welcome to Five Minute Friday.
You will be encouraged, I promise.

Welcome to Five Minute Fridays! This is only my second week participating, but it has kept me motivated this week.

Thanks for sharing. I feel like I too have never been graceful, but in God’s image we are. We are beautiful creations. I have to continue to remind myself of this, and be content whenever I op something, bump into something, fall down. I seem to be doing more of this as an adult that I remember as a kid. Or maybe it just hurts more now! :)

Anyways, thanks for sharing, it was very encouraging!

Magnificent! There’s nothing awkward about this post – just very heartfelt and real – and gifting a smile to those who read. And ya know what? I’m a 40 something former gymnast and still dancer – I’m still forever figuring out that graceful heart and soul dance with my Savior.

So glad you’ve joined up… hope to see you around again, soon!

I did my first one last Friday and it was ridiculously hard. Harder than I expected. I laughed at the end of yours. At first I thought it was some great metaphorical imagery about time slipping away and then I realized, nope. You’re just being real. Great post. Made me chuckle. Made me glad someone else in their 30s hasn’t got the whole ‘graceful’ thing figured out either. When I was 12 I was sure by 30 I would really have it all figured out and that I’d ooze elegance and grace and ‘together-ness’. Not so much. Anyway, I’m glad I’m not the only newbie in the Five Minute Friday thing. Welcome!

You started off mighty well friend! I’m with Sarah… powerful words here… “And the best part is that when he looks at me–He sees graceful.” I say… stop at the powerful words, even if it’s only been two and a half minutes!! Beautifully written. So glad you’re joining in!

Thanks for the advice (and for stopping by). I wasn’t sure if we had to fill up the entire 5 minutes with writing or not. I’m looking forward to my next try.

Hey there! Visiting from Five Minute Friday and just loving what you have to share here. Simple and powerful words here especially: “I may feel awkward or be self-conscious. But He can use even me. And the best part is that when he looks at me–He sees graceful.” BEAUTIFUL!

    Welcome to the group! :)
